The Netherlands is in the Schengen area. On a British citizen passport you can visit without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period. The 90 days count across all Schengen countries, including any visits in the 180 days before this trip.
The EU’s Entry/Exit System started on 12 October 2025. On a UK passport, you may be asked to register your fingerprints and a photo at the border when you arrive. It is free, there is nothing to do before you travel, and the record lasts 3 years. GOV.UK’s EES guide has the details.
GOV.UK says the EU is expected to start ETIAS, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System, from autumn 2026, and that no action is required from travellers at this point. The EU will announce the start date first, and GOV.UK says any website selling ETIAS now is fraudulent.
Read the FCDO travel advice for the Netherlands before you book. The advice changes, so read it again before you fly.
