Direct or with one stop

Flight details checked October 2026.

Direct

British Airways’ direct flight takes about 6 hours 45 minutes from Heathrow or Gatwick to Accra.

With one stop

Other airlines fly to Accra with a change of plane on the way. The journey takes longer, and we can price it from UK airports with no direct flight to Ghana, such as Manchester.

Tell us your dates and we will price both, so you can weigh the fare against the time.

Before you fly

Visa

On a British passport you need a visa to visit Ghana, and you apply before you travel. Start on the Ghana High Commission’s visa page, which links to the Ghana Immigration Service’s online application. The FCDO says to upload your supporting documents with the application, including your yellow fever certificate, and that the standard service takes 10 to 15 days.

Yellow fever

You need a yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter Ghana, as well as for the visa. Take the certificate with you.

If you are Ghanaian and British

Ghana recognises dual nationality. You can register with the Interior Ministry in Ghana for a dual nationality card, which you show when you arrive, so that you do not need a visa.

Money

Declare all foreign currency when you arrive. If you carry cash worth 10,000 US dollars or more, the whole amount can be taken.

Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after you arrive.

Travel advice

Read the FCDO travel advice for Ghana before you book. The only area it advises against is the Bawku Municipal area in the Upper East region, where it advises against all but essential travel. Travelling against FCDO advice can invalidate your travel insurance, and the advice changes, so read it again before you fly.
