Biman’s flights from Heathrow and Manchester land at Sylhet first, then fly on to Dhaka. Heathrow to Sylhet takes about 9 hours 45 minutes, and Heathrow to Dhaka about 11 and a half hours, including the time on the ground in Sylhet.

Before you fly
Visa
Without an NVR stamp, you need a visa to visit Bangladesh on a British passport. The FCDO’s entry requirements for Bangladesh have the details.
If you are of Bangladeshi origin
Apply for a No Visa Required stamp
If you are a British national of Bangladeshi origin, you can apply to the Bangladesh High Commission in London for a No Visa Required (NVR) stamp in your UK passport, which lets you travel without a visa. You need a Bangladeshi passport, national ID card or birth certificate, and spouses and children can apply with supporting documents. Appointments in person must be booked, and the High Commission says NVR is never an urgent service, so apply well before you travel.

Visa on arrival is not guaranteed
The FCDO says a visa on arrival may be available at Dhaka airport, but it is not guaranteed, and the immigration officer decides. You need a return ticket and proof of funds, and if you are eligible you may be able to register online before you go. If you can, get your visa or NVR stamp before you fly.

Bangladesh has an online e-Arrival and e-Departure card for foreign nationals, and you may be asked to complete them.

Your passport needs at least 2 blank pages and no damage. If you need a visa, your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date your visa starts, and the visa starts on the date it is issued, not the date you travel.
Travel advice
Read the FCDO travel advice for Bangladesh before you book. It advises against all but essential travel to the Chittagong Hill Tracts (the Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban districts). It also warns of seasonal flooding in parts of the north east, including the Sylhet region. Travelling against FCDO advice can invalidate your travel insurance, and the advice changes, so read it again before you fly.

Is there a direct flight from London to Dhaka?
Only on Thursdays from 7 January to 25 March 2027, when Heathrow’s timetable lists a direct Biman flight. Biman’s other flights from Heathrow stop in Sylhet on the way to Dhaka, on the same flight.
Does Biman fly from Manchester?
Yes. Biman flies from Manchester Terminal 2 to Sylhet and on to Dhaka, twice a week.
How long is the flight to Bangladesh?
About 9 hours 45 minutes from Heathrow to Sylhet, and about 11 and a half hours to Dhaka, including the time on the ground in Sylhet. From Manchester, Sylhet is about 9 hours 50 minutes.
Do I need a visa for Bangladesh with a British passport?
Yes, unless your UK passport has a No Visa Required stamp. British nationals of Bangladeshi origin can apply for one at the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
