Flight times
A direct flight takes about 8 hours from the UK to Pakistan, and about 8 and a half to 9 hours on the way back. PIAโs flights leave the UK in the late afternoon or evening and land in Pakistan the next morning. Flights back leave Pakistan in the late morning or around midday and land in the UK the same afternoon.
Pakistan is 5 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 4 hours ahead in summer.
Heathrow Terminal 4 and Manchester Terminal 2
PIA uses Terminal 4 at Heathrow for flights up to 27 March 2027, and we confirm the terminal for later dates when we quote. If family are parking at Terminal 4 to meet you, the multi-storey car park there closed on 23 June 2026, and Terminal 4 parking is now in Zone A of the Park and Ride.
PIA uses Terminal 2 at Manchester. You can check in online with PIA first, then drop your bags in the departures hall.
Baggage
Your checked baggage allowance on PIA depends on your cabin and your fare, and it is shown on your e-ticket.
We tell you the allowance for your fare before you pay.
If you need to take more, tell us when you call and we will tell you the options.
Direct or with one stop
PIA flies direct, with no change of plane. British Airways also flies direct, from Gatwick to Islamabad. Other airlines fly from the UK to Pakistan with one stop. Turkish Airlines changes planes in Istanbul, Qatar Airways in Doha, Emirates in Dubai, Etihad in Abu Dhabi and Gulf Air in Bahrain, among others.
With one stop the journey takes longer, often 12 hours or more including the time between flights. In return you get more days to choose from, departures from UK airports PIA does not use, such as Birmingham, and connections to cities PIA does not fly to from the UK, such as Karachi.
Tell us your dates and we will price both, so you can weigh the fare against the journey time.
Before you fly
At the airport. Heathrow and Manchester both advise getting to the airport 3 hours before a flight like this one. PIA sets the time check-in closes, so check it on your booking or ask us.
Visa, NICOP and POC. If you hold a valid NICOP or SNICOP card, Pakistan recognises you as a Pakistani citizen and you can enter without a visa. A valid Pakistan Origin Card (POC), for people of Pakistani origin who are not Pakistani citizens, also lets you enter without a visa. Otherwise, on a British passport you need a visa, and you must apply before you travel, on the Pakistan governmentโs visa site, visa.nadra.gov.pk. Your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date you apply.
Coming back to the UK. British citizens need a valid British passport or a certificate of entitlement to come back into the UK.
Entry stamp. Make sure your passport is stamped when you arrive in Pakistan. Leaving without an entry stamp is difficult.
Children. If you travel with a child as a single parent, or with a child who is not your own, you may need documents showing parental responsibility before you leave Pakistan. The FCDO says this is particularly likely if the child is of Pakistani origin.
Travel advice. Read the FCDO travel advice for Pakistan before you book. Since 6 June 2026 the FCDO has advised against all but essential travel to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which includes Mirpur. It advises against all travel to Balochistan and to much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar. Travelling against FCDO advice can invalidate your travel insurance, and the advice changes often, so check it again before you fly.
If you are not sure how the entry rules apply to you, the Pakistan High Commission in London or your nearest Pakistani consulate can tell you.
If PIA changes your flight
If PIA changes your flight, call us on 020 7993 8474 and we will tell you the options.
Fares are non-refundable once booked unless the airline cancels your flight or the fare rules on your ticket allow a refund.
